No server needed
Mail Desktop is not a thin client that stops at a login screen. On first launch you can open local files, create new ones and edit them in the same five editors as the server suite — without an internet connection.
Write and format .docx/.doc/.odt/.rtf and Markdown, with tables, pictures, comments, tracked changes, find and replace, spellcheck and Word export.
Edit .xlsx/.xls/.ods/.csv with formulas, formatting, charts, PivotTables, comments and Excel export — local calculations, no server round trip.
Open and save .pptx/.ppt/.odp, edit layouts, themes, transitions and speaker notes, and present or export to PowerPoint and PDF.
Edit OmniGraffle .graffle and Visio .vsdx drawings, with stencils, layers, canvases, auto-layout, import and export.
Edit OmniPlan .oplx and Microsoft Project XML plans: tasks, resources, dependencies, Gantt, board and critical path.
Home, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, iCloud Drive and any folder you add, side by side with your server Drive when signed in.

Download and use Mail Desktop without any account. When you have a One Voice Mail server, one browser sign-in adds the connected suite to the same window — with the same local files still available.

Specifications
The local app is deliberately small. Disk use grows with the files and backups you keep; the cache is bounded by default.
